Rovers drop points in Huddersfield

League One side Doncaster Rovers saw yet another poor result damage their hopes of automatic promotion.

Rovers didn't start well in their league one encounter with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield and fell behind to a Robbie Williams goal after only 6 and a half minutes.

With Rovers losing the battle on the field, manager Sean O'Driscoll risked everything to make a double substitution, bringing on the two big men Mark McCammon and Gareth Taylor to replace Paul Heffernan and Jason Price 5 minutes before the half time break.

The risk paid off in the 52nd minute when January signing Gareth Taylor put Rovers back level converting Paul Greens cross.

Less than 10 minutes after equalizing, Rovers appeared to have thrown any chance of getting anything out of the game when on loan defender Matt Mills was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity. To make things worse Huddersfield re-took the lead with Andy Holdsworth scoring a stunning free kick.

Rovers managed to salvage a point from the match thanks to midfielder Paul Green. Green leveled the scores in the 84th minute with a strike from the right hand side of the penalty box.

Neither side went onto score a winner but with Carlisle collecting all 3 points, Rovers have it all to do if they are to finish in the top two.

With Carlisle 5 points in front with a game in hand, we can forget about automatic promotion. Five points from 5 games is not good enough at this end of the season. I'm more worried about Forest and Southend catching us.

At least guaranteed of a play off place. Its not over yet though Carlisle's next two games are Swansea at home and Leeds away.
