Late Winner Denies Doncaster Automatic Promotion!

Doncaster knew that their own fate was in their own hands, victory over Cheltenham and they would finish as runners up to Swansea and gain the second automatic promotion spot, and Cheltenham could be relegated. Doncaster came back from a goal down, but a late Cheltenham winner saw Donny beaten 2-1.

Steven Gillespie (24) put the home side ahead. Doncaster had plenty of chances but couldn't take any of them until Paul Green (76) equalised. Paul Conner (85) grabbed what proved to be the late winner to secure League One survival from Cheltenham, while further missed chances for Donny meant it will be the end of season play-offs for them.

As Nottingham Forest beat Yeovil 3-2 they snuck in through the back door to deny Doncaster what seemed a likely automatic promotion spot, they will now take on Southend in the play-offs, with the first leg at Southend on Friday 9th and the return leg at Doncaster a week later on Friday 16th.

Always next year Dazza, and no 15 point handicap next time round. Not unless the Football league are already trawling the rule books.
