DRFC -Doncaster sign Mathis from West Brom

Doncaster Rovers have signed West Bromwich Albion defender Shelton Mathis on loan.

The Premiership defender has failed to break into the West Brom starting eleven on a regular basis since signing from Hibernian in 2007.
He`s also had short spells at Scunthorpe and Darlington in England.

Rovers currently have a number of problems in defence with Jos Van Nieuwstadt out for around six weeks, James Chambers (shin injury) Adam Lockwood (back), Gordon Greer just returning from injury and Matt Mills and Sam Hird both struggling with knocks in recent weeks.

Mathis who is 6`1" started his career at excelsior Rotterdam, the same club as current Rovers defender Van Nieuwstadt.

He gained a good reputation during his time at Hibernian for being good in the air and excellent distribution from defence.
Something that he referred to on the official website when he said 'I've got a good spring, I am quick, and I can pass the ball. I feel that I have good composure and I love to play football. I feel that I can play good balls into the strikers and hope that I can create chances for them."

Mathis knows he may be thrown straight into the side against Swansea, continuing on the official website he said "There is a chance I will be thrown in at the deep end, but that is the Gaffer's choice and if he needs me, I am ready.'

Sean O`Driscoll has also confirmed that he`s also trying to sort out Rovers goal scoring problem, he`s currently in negotiations with two clubs about bringing in a striker on loan.

Lets hope O'Driscoll can quickly bring in an attacker as well!
