DRFC - Byfield joins Oldham

Doncaster striker Darren Byfield has joined League One side Oldham Athletic on a one month loan deal.

The 32 year old joined in the summer after being released by Bristol City and has found breaking into the team hard to do.

So far this season he`s only made three starts and six substitute appearances and has still yet to record a goal to his name.

Byfield has had a decent scoring record throughout his career, although he`s yet to score for Rovers it`s a surprise that he`s been allowed out on loan as Rovers have only scored seven goals so far this season.

Sean O`Driscoll has revealed however that Rovers are close to bringing in a player on loan, speaking on Rovers World Sean said "We are about as close as we have come to getting somebody in. It is an awful lot of money and at the moment we are deciding whether financially it`s worth the gamble"

With Rovers heading towards League One unless we bring in a goal scorer I think it`s a gamble we must take otherwise it sends out a message to the fans that our ambition is to only yo-yo between the Championship and League One at best.

On the injury front defender Sean Mcdaid looks like he will now be out until March after suffering a reaction to the knee injury he suffered in April last year.

The news comes as a blow to the versatile player who had just stepped up his training.

He will require surgery on his patella and cartilage, the only good news is that hopefully this will clear up the knee problem once and for all.
