DRFC - Rovers fans guide to Watford

Before the season started Vital Doncaster caught up with Vital Watford editor Watford1881 and asked him a few questions to help Rovers fans out on our visit to Vicarage Road this season and also his tips for the season ahead.

Which Pubs would you recommend for Rovers fans to visit?
the pub your fans should visit are 1) moon under the water high street (6-7 mins walk to the ground) This pub is for home and away fans. (note after match it's only home fans) The second bar is mac bar it's a stones throw from the ground just off Vicarage Road. (ask any Watford fan they will tell you where it is) To be honest before the game most pubs or bars in the high street let everyone in... As long as they behave and don't make trouble.

Which pubs would you tell Rovers fans to stay well clear of?
The only pub to not let any away fans in is The Red Lion right outside the away end of the ground.. Don't try to get in coz you need to show your season card at the door to get in.

Best places to get food from?
There are lots of places to buy food from in the town... There's pasta restaurants, fast food-places, as well as pub food too.... On market street there is a fish and chips shop. As well as one on Vicarage road itself... (the chippy on Vic road can get very busy) Also next door to the chippy on Vic road is the Watford cafe well worth a visit if it's not too busy.

Can you get a drink inside the ground?
I don't think away fans can get a beer inside the ground..

How good is the away end, for viewing, space and facilities?
In answer to your next question the Vic road stand is the away end. It's behind the goal .(as you look at the pitch you sit towards the left of the goal) The view is OK. There aren't any posts in your way. The stand is quite new but it was built on a shoe string so the facilities aren't that great.. Normally in the other half of the stand you get Watford give away tickets to local schools, cubs etc.. I think this helps to settle down the away fans if they are getting upset.

How easy is the ground to find?
Watford's ground is easy to find. It sits right next door to Watford general hospital.. It's within 15 mins max working' time from anywhere in the town centre... If you get lost just ask someone Watford fans are approachable and won't take offence to you asking.

Best place for away fans to park?
Now we come to when it all falls down parking. I would say that we get the most away coaches of any club in the Championship. This is because parking is rubbish to say the least... The only places to park are in the multi car parks of the shopping centre in the town. Other than that if you don't mind a little longer walk you could park somewhere just off Hempstead Road. At one End of Hempstead Road is the M25 at the other is the town... The road is about 1.5 miles long so don't park too near the M25 end... If you want just keep driving towards the town on it. At the end is a small round about which has a car park in the middle. park here or go round and back down Hempstead Road and park just off it. Other than that you could always just get the train to Watford Junction too. That's 20-25 mins from the ground. How ever you get here you will most probably pass though the town centre to get to the ground.

Do you know how much you charge for away fans admission?
We at Watford charge different prices for admission. this depends on who we are playing. The prices range from 15 pounds to 30 pounds... I think you'll get in for about 20 quid.... Sometimes we have a special kids for a quid or family days. Adults are charged 10 pounds... You might get lucky... How ever much you are charged you will enjoy your visit to our lovely town. You will be welcomed and made to feel at home... So please come and enjoy a day of football in Watford with your families and friends.

How do you think you will fair this season?
As far as how I think Watford will do this season. I think this season will be the hardest Championship season for years.. I don't think we will make the playoffs this season again. I hope we do but my head rules my heart on this one. Since we were in the prem we have sold too many good players... That's the thing about the prem it's nice when your there but if you go down a lot of your players start thinking' there better than they are and want out.

Who is your key player?
I would say our key player is Tommy Smith. He won player of the season last year... He is a fast tricky winger. If he plays you will know about him.

How do you think Rovers will do in our first season in the Championship?

I think you will find this season hard... Every league you go up the mistake count must go down... You don't get too many chances to score so when you do you must take them... I hope donny does stay in the league and even do well. Just look at Bristol last season. No one outside Bristol gave them a chance did they?? I always root for the underdogs... You can do well if you believe you can.

Finally who do you think will win the Championship this season?
My team to win the Championship is Reading or Derby.

Thanks for your help and I am looking forward to our visit on Saturday.
