Doncaster came second to Sheffield United for points amassed in the second half of the season.
Sheffield United won 44 points to Doncaster`s 40 with eventual champions Wolves third with 37.
After twenty three games Rovers were second bottom with only 18 points from 23 games and four points from safety.
From Boxing Day till early March Rovers recorded ten wins, one draw and one defeat in a twelve game period.
Only injuries towards the end of the season stopped Rovers finishing in a much stronger position with the club losing five of their final eight games to finish in a creditable 14th position.
Rovers chairman John Ryan as already expressed his desire for the club to be pushing for promotion next season with the Play Offs at least his goal.
On the stats for the second half of the season that`s just finished there is no reason why this cannot become a possibility.
The teams who struggled in the second half of the season were Crystal Palace and Plymouth Argyle who recorded only 21 points from their 23 games, the three teams that eventually filled the bottom three positions finishing only slightly better.
Second half of the season points totals:
Sheffield United 44 points
Doncaster Rovers 40 points
Wolves 37 points
Cardiff 37 points
Preston 37 points
Crystal Palace 21 points
Plymouth Argyle 21 points
Charlton Athletic 22 points
Norwich City 23 points
Southampton 23 points
