DRFC - Wellens set to leave?

According to reports in Tuesday`s Leicester Mercury Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens is on the verge of joining Leicester City.

The Foxes have been interested in the midfielder for some time and had a bid of around £1 million turned down at the end of last season.

Wellens is reported to have been at The Walker Stadium on Monday undergoing a medical and will be unveiled in the next few days in a deal worth around £1.5 million.

The 29 year old has made almost 100 appearances for Rovers since joining in 2007/08 and was included in the League One team of the year in his first season when helping the club to promotion to the Championship.

Wellens signed a new two year deal at Rovers in the summer of 2008 contracting him to the club until 2011 but it looks like Rovers are ready to cash in on their influential midfielder.

A lot of Rovers fans will be very disappointed to see Wellens leave and they now wait anxiously of any news regarding Matt Mills and Brian Stock who have also been rumoured with moves away from The Keepmoat.

I am more disappointed if Wellens leaves than Mills and Stock. Gutted, cannot understand why if we are wanting to be challenging at the top end of this League we can sell one of our best players to another Championship side.
