DRFC - O'Driscoll admits Stead interest

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll has admitted his interest in Ipswich Town striker Jonathan Stead.

Stead as recently been placed on the transfer list by Ipswich boss Roy Keane and Stead might welcome a move back to Yorkshire.

Doncaster are struggling once again to score goals this season and a striker is top priority for fans ahead of the transfer window closing next Tuesday.

O`Driscoll would like to see Stead at Doncaster but the former Blackburn and Sunderland striker`s wages may be a major obstacle for Rovers.

The Rovers boss speaking on the official website said 'As you mention the dreaded word 'salary' our interest slightly wanes a little bit because of the cost implication.
'He's a very good player. We'll always follow things up but at the back of your head you'll always be thinking 'can we afford it?' And the answer is probably not.'

The 26 year old has experience at the highest level with Blackburn and Sunderland and he`s also won 11 England under 21 caps.

We need a striker desperately, offload players like Guy who aren't good enough for the Championship if we need a bt of spare wages to bring in a good striker. Without one then we are going to struggle to find goals again this season.

I would offload most of the current strikers in the squad, to free up wages, as they don't seem up to the job. If we can't afford to pay the wages of Championship quality players, then how can we expect to be competitive.
