DRFC O'Driscoll would like to keep Shackell

DRFC O'Driscoll would like to keep Shackell

Sean O`Driscoll has admitted that he would like to keep defender Jason Shackell at the club when his loan ends in January.

Shackell has become an important part of the Rovers defence since his arrival from Wolves in August and as quickly become a fans favourite.

Speaking on the official website O`Driscoll said "Jason is somebody that we would like to keep".

The 26 year old is also hopeful of extending the stay has he doesn`t see himself featuring in the first team if he was to go back to Molyneux.

Although O`Driscoll would like to keep him he admits that it`s doubtful that he could afford to bring the player to the club, continuing O`Driscoll said "I spoke to him and told him that if I could bring him into the squad permanently, then I would. That would probably be a bit difficult for us at this minute in time".

Shackell has made fourteen starts so far this season and scored one goal against Peterborough United in October.

Ae you in financial difficulty or does your chairman just not want to risk going that way?

Done a good job after the departure of Matt Mills in the summer.

They just don't want to go in over their heads, we don't get huge crowds so don't have the clout of other clubs in the Division. Shame really because a few signings in the summer and I believe they was definitely a club with a chance of the play offs at least.
