DRFC Sharp edging towards club and league record

Billy Sharp will be hoping to continue with his goalscoring form over the Christmas period as he moves closer to a club record that has stood for over sixty years.

Sharp who is on a season long loan from Sheffield United has now scored in six games in a row, something that`s not been done since the 1976/77 season by Peter Kitchen.

Only two players have ever scored in more than six games in a row in the 130-year history of the club.

Peter Kitchen scored in seven in a row during the 1975/76 season.
Clarrie Jordan scored in ten games in a row, which is a Football League record that he shares with John Aldridge during his time at Newport County and Jermaine Defoe who was also a loan player at the time when he was playing for current Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll at Bournemouth.

Sharp`s goals have helped Rovers move away from the relegation zone during December with the side winning their last four games in a row without conceding a goal.

The 23 year old will be hoping to make it a magnificent seven when the side travel to Coventry City on Boxing Day.

Still a long way to go, hope he continues on Boxing Day and gets even closer.

The fact he's being mentioned in the same light as Peter Kitchen and Clarrie Jordan should be telling the club they need to make sure they hold onto this player.

Would be a great achievement by any player, but to do it at a time when Rovers were initially struggling makes it all the better.
