History

The two clubs have met on seven separate occasions at Doncaster with both sides claiming three wins apiece.

The last time they met at Belle Vue was on the last day of the 1986/87 season when Middlesbrough needed a win to gain promotion to the second tier.

The popular side of the ground had been closed down days before due to subsidence, so only two sides were open with the old cow shed end having not been used since the end of the 1984/85 season.

Middlesbrough fans crammed the two sides of the ground and celebrated promotion with a 2-0 win.

When the two clubs met earlier in the season at Middlesbrough the home side sent Rovers to their first defeat of the season in a 2-0 win.
