DRFC Sharp offer not enough for United

Sheffield United have turned down an offer from Doncaster Rovers for striker Billy Sharp.

The offer, reported to be a club record was deemed not enough by United according to Rovers Chairman John Ryan.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Ryan said, 'I'm disappointed. We will have to wait and see what happens.
'All we can do is make offers. It was certainly the biggest bid Doncaster Rovers have made for a player.'

Sharp enjoyed a highly successful season long loan at Doncaster last season scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances.

The striker joined the Blades in the summer of 2007 in a £2 million deal but struggled to find the goalscoring form he enjoyed at his previous club Scunthorpe.

Ryan stated that Rovers will not be making Sheffield an improved offer, when asked he said, 'Not at this stage, no. I think we pushed the boat out a bit with that offer."

The 24 year old is in the last year of his contract at Sheffield and they risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

I think they want a bidding war for him, lets hope we stay clear and give you a run at him

I heard a rumour that Rovers had offered around £750,000

I think Sheff Utd will want to recoup at least half of the £2 million the paid for him. Might have been better if he'd not had such a good season. Rovers should have tried to sign him in January.

Dont get carried away with Sharps transfer fee when he returned from Scunny, lads. He left SUFC for £100k, with a 25% sell on clause, United then bought him back for circa £1.2m after the sell on clause was applied, but I dont believe he would be allowed to go for under £1m. Derby will certainly be prepaired to pay that.

i want his to stay at the lane, young, a blade through and through, he has ability, he's fast....all he needs to do is adapt his game to suit. although we may be holding out for 500k and brian stock for sharp so i heard last night.

Rovers will have to think how invaluable he is to them - I can't see £750,000 being enough
