With the season just ten weeks away we will take a look back at the 2009/10 season starting with the opening month of August.
The season started on the 8th August at Watford and the side quickly became the draw specialists, drawing three of their first five games.
Rovers went into the new season with just four new signings over the summer months.
Experienced midfielders Jon Oster and Quinton Fortune joined on short-term deals and unknown Mustapha Dumbuya and Byron Webster also joined.
Going out the door were two key players from the past two seasons, Richie Wellens joined Leicester City and Matt Mills joined Reading.
Rovers started the season on a beautiful hot sunny day in Watford.
Danny Graham gave the hosts the lead just short of the half hour mark and that was cancelled out before half time when James Hayter`s looping header from the edge of the area earned Rovers a point.
Rovers felt they were denied an opening day win, Dean Shiels effort looked to have crossed the line but both the referee and his assistant missed it.
The Carling Cup was Rovers next assignment and the chance of revenge against League Two side Notts County who had knocked them out at the same stage the previous season.
Notts County had got new investors and were hot favourites for promotion after spending heavily during the summer months.
Rovers did gain revenge when James Coppinger scored the only goal of the game and set up a second round clash at the Keepmoat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Jason Shackell joined Rovers on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers and he went straight into the side for the first home game of the season against Preston on the Saturday.
Rovers again had to settle for a point against their Lancashire rivals.
Former Rovers loan striker Chris Brown gave the visitors the lead halfway through the first half and they held on until ten minutes from time when defender Adam Lockwood equalised.
Rovers were quickly back in league action when they entertained Coventry City on the Tuesday who had won their first two games of the league season.
They again had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw despite dominating for long periods and being kept out by Coventry keeper Kieran Westwood who made a number of excellent saves.
Next up was a trip to the Riverside Stadium and a game against Middlesbrough who had been relegated from the Premiership the previous season.
Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season as a goal in each half by Tuncay and Leroy Lita claimed all three points for the hosts.
The Carling Cup second round clash with Spurs at the Keepmoat was next up and despite a good performance by Rovers they was humbled 5-1 by the Premiership side.
Spurs keeper Cudicini made a couple of fantastic saves from Hayter and Shiels early on which could have changed the complex of the game but Huddlestone scored the opening goal of the game in the 9th minute and this was quickly followed by a second by Jamie O`Hara and the tie was as good as over.
Peter Crouch made it 3-0 before half time and an early second half goal from Dave Bentley made it four.
Rovers at least got a consolation goal their efforts deserved when Martin Woods scored from the penalty spot.
Roman Pavlyuchenko came off the bench to score a fifth for Spurs as their Premiership quality told its own story.
The month ended with a home fixture against another side who had started the season well in Cardiff City.
This time Rovers took there chances and James Hayter and Adam Lockwood both scored inside the opening twenty minutes to record Rovers first win of the season.
A reasonable start to the new season in August with one win, three draws and one defeat in the league that saw them sat in fourteenth position with six points.
On the final day of the transfer window the Keepmoat was relatively quiet, defender Jos Van Nieuwstadt was released from his contract at the club.
Jason Shackell extended his loan deal until January from Wolverhampton Wanderers and young Scottish midfielder Jack Wilson joined on a short-term deal.
The biggest signing for Rovers was to be in the final moments before the window shut when they signed striker Billy Sharp on a season long loan from Sheffield United.
Next week we will be remembering September when Rovers continued their drawing habit.
