DRFC Stock linked with Saints

Doncaster Rovers captain Brian Stock is once again being linked with a move to League One side Southampton.

Southampton are rumoured to have asked Rovers about the Welsh international but have been put off by the price tag quoted to them by Rovers, although both clubs deny any talks taking place.

The 28 year old who hails from Hampshire started his career on the south coast with Bournemouth before joining Championship side Preston North End.

Stock struggled to hold down a regular starting place with the Lancashire club and initially joined Rovers on loan in 2006.

After a successful loan spell, Rovers made the move permanent in the January transfer window.

The midfielder has now played well over 100 games for Rovers and won his first full cap for Wales in the World Cup qualifier against Russia in September 2009.

Stock has struggled with a persistent back problem during the past two seasons that has limited his appearances since promotion to the Championship.

It`s not the first time that he`s been linked with a move away from the Keepmoat, with West Brom, Reading and Wolves both being linked with him during the last season.

Stock has only one year left on his current Rovers contract so will they want to cash in on their captain or risk losing him on a free transfer in a years time.

I don't think he will be at the Keepmoat next season.

I will be very surprised if he starts the season at Rovers. I can't see him signing a new contract at Rovers either so should the club cash in or allow him to leave on a free the following summer?
