DRFC Wilson eyeing play offs

Mark Wilson who recently signed a new two year deal with the club feels the club have a great chance of reaching the Play offs this season after enjoying a top half finish last season

The midfielder believes that Rovers can take a lot of encouragement from the achievement of Blackpool who havejust reached the Premiership despite being one of the favourites for relegation at the start of last season.

Speaking in the Sheffield Star, Wilson said 'As Blackpool showed last season, even if you are not one of the elite teams, anybody can break out of the pack and make a run for it and get promoted.

'A lot of it boils down to how clubs do things and use all the information which is available. If the manager doesn't get his message across properly, or the players don't listen, then the club is not going to be successful.

'I think Doncaster Rovers use the information the right way.'

Rovers enjoyed their most succesful season in almost sixty years when they finished twelflth last season depsite also being one of the favourites for relegation at the start of the season.

Rovers looked like they could earn themselves a play off spot by the end of March after losing just one of their previous eight games saw them just six points outside the play offs.

A run of injuries to key players, including leading goalscorer Billy Sharp saw them win just one of their final six games of the season to finish twelfth.

Wilson believes that Rovers are in a strong position to push for the play offs this season especially with a few of the club relegated from the Premiership last season in financial difficulty and looking like they may have to sell the majority of their players.

Asked whether he felt the club could be in with a shout of the play off`s he continued, 'When I look at the new league and I ask myself: have we got a chance of achieving what we want to achieve? The answer is yes.'

Rovers fans will be looking forward to the fixtures being announced on the 17th of June and be able to start planning for their third season in the Championship.

I think its definitely more open this season with quite a few clubs in financial trouble.

Once again Rovers are one of the favourites for relegation.

I would have thought staying up would be the priority again.
