DRFC Oster may need surgery

Doncaster Rovers midfielder John Oster may need surgery before the new season begins.

Oster who is out of contract at the end of the month and yet to agree to a new deal, missed Rovers last two games of the season when he injured his knee in the pre match warm up in the clubs last home game against Scunthorpe United.

Oster was told to rest the injury and the club would assess the injury when he returned from his holiday`s later this month.

Rovers physio John Dickens speaking in the Sheffield Star said, 'If rest hasn't cured the problem then we might have to do something. If that is the case then we'll get it done as quickly as possible.

'It would only be a minor operation and the rehab is only about three weeks so he'd be ready to start training around about the same time as the players report back in the first week of July.'

The experienced midfielder joined Rovers on the eve of last season on a short-term deal, which was extended in January after impressing in the side.

The 31 year old made 44 appearances during the season, scoring one goal and Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll offered him a new deal at the end of the season.

In other Rovers injury news, long term injured Steve Brooker who has still only made a brief substitute appearance since arriving at the club originally on loan in November 2008, is hoping to play some part in pre season as he continues to overcome his ankle injury.

Byron Webster who suffered a broken bone in his foot is also hoping to return to action in pre season.

The tall defender made five appearances for Rovers last season.

Its good that they should all be back in pre season. I really hope that Brooker can finally get himself fit. It will be like a new signing again!

I wonder if Brooker can remember what its like to play football?
