Ipswich Turn To Penney

After a series of knock-backs in trying to appoint a new manager, reports this morning suggest that Ipswich Town will ask for permission to speak to Dave Penney.

The Tractor Boys Chief Executive Derek Bowden told the Ipswich Town Official Website:

“It's perhaps likely that a decision will be made next week rather than this one. The timescale we are looking at is having someone in place by June 9.

“You can never be sure with these things but I'm confident we will have a new manager within two weeks. It's a big decision for the Board to make and the pressure is there to make the right decision, not a quick decision.”

Ipswich have confirmed that Ian Holloway, Willie Donachie and Nigel Pearson have not made the shortlist.

Colin Calderwood has already turned the job down, deciding to join Nottingham Forest instead.

The Jim Magilton - Bryan Klug partnership is the front-runner alongside two other candidates, whose identities are still not reported but thought to be Sammy Lee and Dave Penney.
