Continuing are look back at the 2009/10 season, we now move into October where Rovers faced two local derbies as well as a trip to Newcastle.
Rovers started the month with a trip to Bramall Lane and a clash with South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.
James Hayter gave Rovers the lead on the stroke of half time but had to be happy with a point when Richard Cresswell scored for the home side halfway through the second half.
The result was Rovers eighth draw in eleven league games so far in the season.
Rovers strengthened their midfield with the signing of Simon Gillett on a two-month loan deal.
Going out the door was keeper Ben Smith who joined Morecambe for one month.
Another South Yorkshire derby came next when they entertained Barnsley.
Rovers suffered their first home defeat of the season when Adam Hammill scored late on for Barnsley despite being under pressure from the home side for most of the game.
Rovers had the chance to quickly put the disappointment of the Barnsley result behind them when they entertained bottom club Peterborough on the Tuesday night.
The three 'Sh`s` wrapped up a comprehensive 3-1 win for the home side with Sharp, Shiels and Shackell getting the goals.
Another Rovers player was to go out for a spell on loan; Waide Fairhurst who had enjoyed an impressive brief spell in the starting line up the previous month joined League Two side Shrewsbury Town.
Rovers travelled to table toppers Newcastle United next and could have quite easily have come away with all three points.
Dean Shiels gave Rovers the lead inside twenty minutes, as the visitors looked more than a match for their illustrious opponents.
Andy Carroll equalised for the home side halfway through the half but then Rovers missed a great chance to retake the lead when Martin Woods saw his penalty hit the post.
Things were made worse for the home side when Zurab Khizanishvili was shown a straight red card after an altercation with Rovers striker Billy Sharp.
Rovers hearts were to be broken in stoppage time when Kevin Nolan picked his spot from the edge of the area and send Rovers home with nothing to show for a good performance.
Rovers finished the month with a home game with Blackpool and again for the second time in just over a month the fans were entertained in another six goal thriller.
Martin Woods gave the home side the lead inside five minutes only for Ian Evatt to equalise for the visitors halfway through the half.
Billy Sharp gave Rovers the perfect start to the second half when he scored within 12 seconds of the restart.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who was enjoying a loan spell at Blackpool for Arsenal was proving a constant thorn in Rovers side and he drew the sides level again just past the hour.
Sean O`Driscoll was obviously that impressed with the Arsenal youngster that he would sign him on loan in the second half of the season.
Blackpool looked like snatching all three points when Ben Burgess grabbed them the lead inside the final fifteen minutes.
Rovers got the point they at least deserved when Billy Sharp scored his second of the afternoon in the final minute.
Paul Heffernan almost snatched a late winner for Rovers when he missed a great chance for the home side.
Rovers finished the month in nineteenth place after just one win during October.
Next time we will be looking back at November when loan striker Billy Sharp was to find his goalscoring boots, as he would start a run of scoring in six games in a row.
