DRFC Season review - November

We now move into a very quiet November in our review of the 2009/10 season when the club only manage three games during the whole month.

Doncaster midfielder Dean Shiels earns a recall to the Northern Ireland squad for their friendly with Serbia after a number of impressive displays in the first few month`s of the season.

Rovers are giving a trial to Austrian striker Roman Kienast and he scores in a 4-3 victory over Sheffield United in a behind closed doors friendly.

Rovers make the long trip to Plymouth Argyle and come away empty handed.

Dean Shiels scored his third goal in four games to bring Rovers level shortly after falling behind in the first half.

Rovers are dealt a blow early in the second half when Martin Woods is sent off for two bookable offences.

The Pilgrims claim all three points with just under twenty minutes remaining thanks to a goal from Rory Fallon.

Rovers put the defeat behind them next time out with a very impressive performance in a 2-0 home win over QPR.

Goals from Billy Sharp and another from Dean Shiels are enough to claim the points.

Waide Fairhurst extends his loan stay at League Two side Shrewsbury Town until early January after impressing during his initial one month loan at the club.

Also heading out on loan is striker Paul Heffernan who joins former Rovers boss Dave Penney at League One side Oldham Athletic.

Rovers suffer their heaviest defeat of the season at high flying Nottingham Forest 4-1. Billy Sharp scores a late consolation goal for Rovers who finish the month in eighteenth place with eighteen points from the same amount of games played.

The FA Cup third round draw takes places and Rovers are handed what looks a tricky tie at League One side Brentford.

Next time we will be taking a look back at December when Rovers enjoy a successful run of form and Billy Sharp goes on a goalscoring spree.

Would have to be disappointed with the Plymouth defeat who went on to complete the double over Rovers later in the season.

Dean Shiels was beginning to look like the player he had been touted as when he signed from Hibs. And of course Billy Sharp was just beginning to get into the groove.
