DRFC Rovers in the hunt for Gillett again

Doncaster Rovers are once again in the hunt for Simon Gillett who was released by Southampton at the end of last season according to reports.

Gillett spent two month`s on loan at Rovers last season whilst Brian Stock was injured and made eleven first team appearances.

The midfielder was strongly linked with a move to the Keepmoat during the last January transfer window but it is believed that personal terms couldn`t be agreed between the two parties.

The 24 year old spent five years at Southampton making just the 30 appearances.

During that time, he also spent time on loan at Walsall, Blackpool twice, Bournemouth and Yeovil.

So far, Rovers have brought in just the one player during the summer, defender George Friend has joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rovers have also put in a club record bid for striker Billy Sharp from Sheffield United, who enjoyed a season long loan at the Keepmoat last season but the Bramall Lane club turned it down.

I thought it all fell through because Rovers wouldn't sell Southampton Brian Stock.

There are rumours around again that we are in the hunt for Stock. Apparently we have offered 1.2m? :S

I think he's in the last year of his contract so Rovers might need to sell to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season. Its always been strongly rumoured that his partner isn't happy up north and wants to return to the South coast.
