DRFC Sharp set to sign for Rovers

Billy Sharp looks all set to sign for Doncaster Rovers according to reports on Radio Sheffield.

Rovers had a club record bid turned down earlier in the summer for Sharp, look like finally landing their man after offering in the region of £1.1 million, smashing their previous record transfer fee paid for Matt Mills in 2008 who cost them £300,000 from Manchester City.

Sharp spent last season on loan at the Keepmoat, he scored fifteen goals in thirty-five games and as seen much speculation regarding his future throughout the summer.

Sharp recently turned down a move to Burnley who had agreed a fee with Sheffield United and Leeds United have also been strongly linked with his signature.

The former Scunthorpe United striker recently stated that he was ready to fight for his place at Sheffield United, but with him going into the final year of his contract, it looks like United have looked to recoup some of the near £2 million they paid for him in 2007.

Rovers have called a press conference for Wednesday afternoon when it`s likely to be announced.

Thats a real coup for Rovers to beat a number of clubs to his signature. I just hope they haven't put all their eggs in one basket.

This is a brilliant signing for Rovers, I think now they are just a good central defender away from being very competitive in the Championship next season.
