DRFC Pre season kicks off this evening

Doncaster Rovers start their pre season programme tonight when they travel to local side Askern Villa.

Sean O`Driscoll is expected to take a full strength side to the Northern Counties East League Division One side with two separate sides playing 45 minutes each if last season`s pre season friendlies are anything to go by.

The Welfare Ground side are expecting a record crowd for this evening`s game against Rovers.

It will be a first chance for Rovers fans to see summer signing George Friend who joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

Former Rovers player David Jones who recently signed for Villa will not be lining up against his former club as he is still recovering from an operation.

This will be the first of a minimum of seven pre season games as Rovers prepare for their third season in the Championship.

After tonight, Rovers travel to Warwickshire University to face Quorn FC a week today.

They follow this up when they face more non-league opposition when they stay in the midlands and play Solihull Moors.

Rovers then head down to Devon where they will take part in the week long Joma South West Challenge Cup with at least two fixtures.

They start the group competition against Barnstaple Town and then face Holsworthy two days later.

The winners of the group will progress to the semi finals.

Rovers finish off their pre season with two home games against league opposition. They firstly face newly promoted to the Premiership West Brom and finish off against Sheffield Wednesday.

Pre season fixture list:

Wednesday July 7th Askern Villa
Wednesday July 14th Quorn FC
Saturday July 17th Solihull Moors

Devon South West Challenge cup
Monday July 19th Barnstaple Town
Wednesday July 21st Holsworthy FC

Tuesday July 27th West Brom home
