DRFC Sharp determined to sign for Rovers

Billy Sharp was determined to sign for Doncaster Rovers this summer according to Sheffield United chief executive Trevor Birch.

Speaking on Sheffield United`s official website, Birch said, "After discussions with his agent that Billy would not sign a new contract and was determined to return to Doncaster."

Sharp was in the final year of his contract at Sheffield United and as been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane all summer with Burnley, Doncaster and Leeds leading the chase according to reports.

The 24-year-old who scored 15 goals in 35 appearances last season whilst on a season long loan at Doncaster from Sheffield United, recently turned down a move to last season`s Premier League side Burnley after the two clubs had agreed a deal.

Sharp has signed a three-year deal at the Keepmoat and signs for a club record transfer fee paid of £1.15 million.

He must have turned down a better deal at Burnley in favour of joining Rovers. Good to see a player joining a club for the right reasons and not all about the money.

We should also be thanking the efforts of John Ryan and the other Directors of the Club for the hard work they have put in to bring Sharp to the club

Fair play to them for stumping up the money, a bit more pressure on this season now though. I am sure they will want to see some return on their investments.

A rare commodity, a player who joins a club because he actually wants to join them and turn down more money from another club. I take my hat off to Billy Sharp
