DRFC Ryan delighted to capture Sharp

DRFC Ryan delighted to capture Sharp

Doncaster Rovers Chairman John Ryan is delighted to finally see the club land Billy Sharp permanently in a club record transfer.

Sharp who joined Rovers on a season long loan last season looked to have been priced out of a deal to rejoin the club earlier in the summer on a permanent deal when Rovers had an initial bid rejected by Sheffield United.

Sheffield United then accepted a bid from Burnley and it looked like he would be on his way to Turf Moor to join the side that were relegated from the Premiership at the end of last season.

Rovers came back in with a club record £1.15 million offer to clinch the signing of last seasons leading goalscorer at the club.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Ryan said, "I`m absolutely delighted he`s made this decision, he`s only just 24, the worlds still his oyster.
Hopefully it shows the sporting public of Doncaster, that Doncaster Rovers means business. We are not just in the Championship to escape relegation."

Ryan went on to say that he believes the squad is the best in the history of Doncaster Rovers and that the side just 'oozes` class and can be up amongst the front runners this season.

The Chairman also said that the signing of Billy Sharp was done outside the budget set out for manager Sean O`Driscoll this summer and was financed by himself, his two partners and that the rest of the board to ensure that Sharp returned to the Keepmoat.

Credit to all the board at Doncaster Rovers for financing this deal. Great news to also know that its not included in O'Driscolls budget this summer which was also a record amount given by any manager. I wonder who else will be coming in?

Every club outside the top Premiership clubs could only wish for a John Ryan. What an unbelieveable job he's done in twelve years at the club. I couldn't see them spending £1.15 in 1998 let alone £1.15 million!!!

Yes I agree. Rovers have come along way since John Ryan took over at the club. He as used a lot of his own money for the club. A few Premier clubs would dearly love a John Ryan. Lets hope the locals now support not only the club but the Board for all thier hard work.

John Ryan will go down in Rovers folklore, he's an absolute hero to Rovers fans, I agree VP, I hope more fans will back the club this season now that they have really put the money in for all to see.

As we would say here in Oz, Ryan's a dead-set legend.

John Ryan and the board are legends. Things are really looking up for Rovers, can't wait for season to kick off. Lets get some new chants going for this season. I love the Oh... Billy Billy...... chat but lets include everyone. It's a team effort after all. Would love the board, players, fans and Doncaster town to be rewarded with a crack at the premiership. I know I might be dreaming but this team looks really capable.

I think a couple more signings in key areas, central defender and another striker and Rovers could be a real force.

I do envy you, you have a fantastic chairman who loves the club and for once has the finances to live the dream.
