DRFC Rovers enjoy winning start to pre season

Doncaster Rovers started off their pre season campaign with a 2-0 victory at local side Askern Villa.

Rovers won thanks to two late second half goals from Dean Shiels and James Hayter.

Dean Shiels scored the first when he lobbed the Askern keeper just past 70 minutes and James Hayter clinched the win in similar fashion.

Billy Sharp who signed earlier in the day for Rovers did not take part in the game but Sean O`Driscoll did take a full strength squad that included three unnamed trialists.

George Friend made his debut for the club when he started in defence.

Rovers made six substitutions at half time and there was also a run out for assistant manager Richard O`Kelly.

Rovers next pre season game is next Wednesday when they travel to play Quorn FC at Warwickshire University.

A nice workout for the lads, I am sure we will step it up a bit when we go down to Devon for the tournament and then the two home games with West Brom and Sheff Wed.

By all accounts Askern gave us a good game, reports are that the young trialist Liam Hardy did well when he came on. Hayter scored, thought he was out of contract? Have we signed him?
