DRFC Season review - February

DRFC Season review - February

We now move into February in our review of our season as Rovers enjoy mixed fortunes.

The month starts with the transfer window closing, Rover bring in defender Shelton Martis from West Brom on a three and a half year deal.

Rovers allow Quinton Fortune and Jack Wilson to leave the Keepmoat after their short term deals come to an end.

Rovers are finally shown live on the TV this season and probably wish they weren`t as they go down 2-1 at home to Reading.

Billy Sharp scores a late consolation penalty for Rovers after former defender Matt Mills handballs on the line, which sees him sent off on his first return to the Keepmoat.

Paul Heffernan joins League One side Bristol Rovers on loan for a month as he struggles to get a regular spot in the Doncaster side.

Rovers are quickly back in action when they travel to promotion chasing Leicester City and come away with a point in a 0-0 draw.

A solitary Billy Sharp goal gets Rovers back on the winning trail with a 1-0 home win over Nottingham Forest.

Rovers sign defender Elliott Ward on an emergency loan deal from Coventry for one month.

Ward becomes an instant hero with a spectacular overhead kick goal at Sheffield Wednesday to give Rovers the lead.

An own goal in the second half secures all three points for Rovers and their first ever win at Hillsborough in the league.

After two wins in a row Rovers put in a below standard performance and suffer a 2-1 defeat at Qpr.

Dean Shiels earns his first call up for Northern Ireland in two years for the forthcoming friendly against Albania.

Rovers come up against Leicester for the second time in the month and lose 1-0 to an early goal at the Keepmoat.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas joins Rovers on loan from Arsenal on an initial one-month loan deal.

Rovers drop more home points when they are held to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

James Coppinger gives Rovers the lead in the first half and they miss a host of chances to secure the three points.

Palace equalised late on through Kieran Djilali to frustrate Rovers. It was made even worse deep into stoppage time when Jordan Mutch was clearly upended in the penalty box but somehow the referee and his assistant waved away the appeals.

The result sees Rovers finish the month in fourteenth place and safely in mid table.

Next week we are looking back at March when Rovers start thinking about a late push for the Play offs.

I must admit after the Reading game I was worried we might get dragged back into a rlegation dog fight.

Will never forget the Elliott Ward goal at Hillsborough, poor quality.
