DRFC Sharp off the mark in Rovers win

Billy Sharp scored his first goal for the club since his club record transfer in Rovers latest pre season friendly at Solihull Moors.

Sharp scored the only goal of the game with just twenty minutes remaining as Rovers were once again given a stern test by non-league opposition.

Sean O`Driscoll again gave appearances to Joel Grandison and Shaleum Logan who are currently enjoying trials at the club.

He also once again gave the first team a good run out with six changes at half time.

Billy Sharp was a constant threat all afternoon and called the Solihull keeper into action on a couple of occasions in the first half.

James Hayter also went close but the Solihull keeper made a good save to deny the Rovers forward.

Rovers made the breakthrough after Mustapha Dumbuya pounced on a mistake in the Solihull defence; he cut the ball back for Sharp to tap in from close range.

Another good workout for Rovers who now head down to Devon to take part in the week long Joma South West cup.

Rovers start their group games with a game against Barnstaple Town on Monday and follow that up on Wednesday with a game against Holsworthy.

If Rovers progress they will then play in the semi finals on Saturday, with the final the following day.

Second Half:

At last a goal. I understand that it is not goals during pre-season more how the team play, however it is good to have a goal and a win for the team.

It sounds like the non league sides are really giving us a good game.

I think we might learn a lot now they are going away to compete in a tournament, more concern with how many injuries we are picking up at the moment.
