DRFC Rovers sign former Hammers youngster

Doncaster Rovers have signed Josh Payne on a short term deal after a successful trial period at the club.

The midfielder as been involved in much of Rovers pre season campaign after being released by Premiership club West Ham United at the end of last season.

Speaking on the official website, Payne couldn`t hide his delight at signing for Rovers, Payne said, "I`m really pleased to sign for Doncaster after playing in quite a few of the pre season games.

"There was one or two other clubs interested in me but Doncaster were the only one I was happy to sign for as they play the type of football I like to be involved in."

The 19 year old has signed on an initial six-month deal with the club.

Rovers have also been giving a number of trials to other players during pre season but Payne is so far the only one to put pen to paper and sign for the club.

We did the same with Oster last season and see how he turned out. I think that signing youngsters (remember he is only 19) shows forethought and building for the future.

He got some rave reviews during pre season and looks very comfortable on the ball. I'm surprised with him only being 19 that we haven't offered him at least a two year deal. six months gives him a chance to put himself in the shop window for other clubs.

A great signing, can't understand why its only for six months, leaves us vulnerable to him being snatched up in January if he impresses in the first half of the season.
