DRFC Preston v Doncaster Match Preview

The Championship season kicks off on Saturday and Rovers will be hoping to start with a win as they make the journey across the Pennines to face Preston North End.

The Lilywhites finished last season in seventeenth place on 54 points.

At Deepdale last season, they won 9, drew 10 and lost 4.

In pre season, they played six games, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 2.

They beat Bamber Bridge 6-1, Chorley 1-0 and Blackburn 3-0. Wrexham held them to a 1-1 draw whilst they lost to Everton 3-0 and Oldham 1-0.

Doncaster

Rovers finished last season with a top half finish in twelfth place with 60 points

On their travels, they won 6, drew 8 and lost 9.

In pre season, they have played 7 games, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 1.

Rovers beat Askern Welfare 2-0, Solihull Moors 1-0, Barnstaple Town 10-1, West Brom 1-0 and Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

Quorns FC held Rovers to a 0-0 draw and their only defeat came in the South West cup when they were beaten 5-0 by Havant and Waterlooville.


History

In both sides long histories they have only ever met on fourteen occasions at Deepdale with the home side winning 11 to Doncaster`s 1 and 2 draws.

Rovers solitary win came back in the 1987/88 season when they recorded a 2-1 win.

They came very close to making two wins at Deepdale when they met last season. James Hayter gave Rovers the lead on the half hour only for Neil Mellor to cancel it out just before half time.

Billy Sharp had a great chance to take all three points back to the Keepmoat but Andy Lonergan excellently saved his penalty.
