DRFC Guy enjoys cup giant killing

Former Doncaster Rovers striker Lewis Guy was the hero of the hour for MK Dons last night as they produced the shock of the round in the Carling Cup.

Guy came off the bench to score the winner, and his first competitive goal for Milton Keynes, as they beat Premiership side Blackpool 4-3 after extra time at the StadiumMK.

Rovers released the striker in the summer after five years at the club.

He will always be remembered at the Keepmoat as the player who scored Rovers first goal back in the Championship for fifty years, when they marked their return to the second tier of English football in 2008, with an opening day 2-1 win at Derby County.

The former Newcastle United youngster will be hoping that his new side can enjoy the success that Rovers enjoyed during the 2005/06 Carling Cup when he helped Rovers, who were then a League One side to the Quarter Finals of the competition and knocked out Premiership sides Manchester City and Aston Villa along the way.

Rovers narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals when Arsenal equalised in injury time at the end of extra time, before eventually knocking out Rovers on penalties.

Since his move to Milton Keynes, he`s made just the one start so far for his new club in the first round of this competition, when they knocked out Dagenham and Redbridge.

In the league, Guy has come off the bench in both their opening games.

Elsewhere in the Carling Cup last night, another former Rovers favourite Richie Wellens scored the equaliser for Leicester City as they came from behind to knock out fellow Championship side Leeds United at Elland Road 2-1.

Rovers not involved in the second round this week after being knocked out by Accrington Stanley in the first round.
