'If It's Football, It's Vital'

DRFC Former player retires to join the church

Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Stuart Elliott has retired from football to concentrate on his religious beliefs.

The born again Christian as quit football to devote his life to god, speaking in the Scottish Daily Record, Elliott said, 'It was a huge decision, but it's my heart's desire to serve Christ and bring a new dimension to the Christian ministry.'

Elliott was released by Rovers in January and joined Hamilton Academicals before being loaned out to Stirling Albion towards the end of the season.

The 32 year old spent almost two years at the Keepmoat but struggled to earn a regular place in the team, making just 19 appearances for the club.

I am sure he will come in fro some ridicule from certain quarters. If its what he believes in then good luck to him. He's turning his back on football which has given him a decent career which couldn't have been an easy decision.
