DRFC Coppinger signs new deal

Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger has signed a new three year contract with the club keeping him at the Keepmoat until 2013.

The 29 year old is already the longest serving current player at the club having signed from Exeter City in 2004; he has been an integral pat of the side that has risen from League One and become a respected side in the Championship in the past two seasons.

Coppinger has made over 250 appearances since arriving at Doncaster and will always be best remembered for his fantastic hat trick against Southend United in the Play Off semi final second leg in 2008.

He scored his first goal of this season in Rovers last game when they defeated Hull City 3-1.

Coppinger is the first player out of the five players whose contract ends at the end of the current season.

Sean O`Driscoll will now be keen to sort out the future of four more key players in the Rovers squad, club captain Brian Stock, midfielder Martin Woods and defenders James O`Connor and James Chambers are all free agents at the end of the season.

I am so glad he's staying, I just hope we can get the others to sign they are all key players.

I expected a few clubs to be sniffing around Copps, great work by the Rovers staff to sort him out already. Now lets make sure we get the others.
