DRFC Woods disappointed with Scotland omission
Doncaster Rovers midfielder Martin Woods couldn`t hide his disappointment after not earning a call up to the latest Scotland squad for their European qualifiers next week and believes that the players at Doncaster Rovers are being overlooked.
The Airdrie born midfielder has so far represented his country at Schoolboy, under 17, under 19 and under 21 level and was hoping to earn his first senior call, but he feels that playing for Doncaster, people still look at them as a 'small` club, due to their status in the game before the turn of the century.
With Scotland facing difficult qualifiers against Spain and the Czech Republic next week, Woods was hoping for a call up after hearing encouraging words from Scotland boss Craig Levein who had been in contact with Rovers chairman John Ryan.
Woods speaking in the Yorkshire Post said, 'For the first time in my career, I was genuinely disappointed not to be in the Scotland squad this week. I have been playing well and Craig Levein had even spoken to our chairman (John Ryan) to say that he liked me. But I think they have a lack of respect for Doncaster and I think they view us as a 'small' club.'
Despite Woods thoughts, Rovers do have Brian Stock currently playing for his national side Wales and Dean Shiels has played for Northern Ireland in the past twelve months.
