DRFC Payne to sign for Oxford

Josh Payne has agreed in principle to sign for Oxford United on a permanent basis when his loan deal runs out in January.

The youngster will sign a two and a half year deal on a free transfer after impressing during his short stay with Oxford.

The 19 year old signed for Rovers in the summer after being released by West Ham United at the end of last season, but after making just one first team appearance he joined Oxford on loan at the end of August.

The midfielder originally signed on a one-month loan deal but extended into the New Year.

Payne scored his first goal for Oxford in Saturday`s 3-1 home win over Northampton Town.

I wonder if the lad was a bit homesick for the south? Seems a very strange decision by Rovers. Thought he was a decent player and at just 19 he is definitely going to do well in the future. I hope we don't regret it.

Thats a shame, I was thinking he would do well at Rovers. Looked the business during pre season.
