DRFC O'Driscoll left gob smacked by penalty

Doncaster Rovers manager boss Sean O`Driscoll was left gob smacked after the awarding of a penalty against his side in the dying moments of the first half that effectively changed the game.

Referee James Linington awarded a penalty for a foul on Lloyd Dyer after Rovers keeper Neil Sullivan slid out and quite clearly gathered the ball without a foul being committed.

Speaking on the official website, O`Driscoll said, 'I watched it on DVD at half-time and I was gob smacked. They both went for the ball and there was a collision. Why it warranted a penalty decision, I'm not sure.'
' If that's the level that you give penalties for, then there will be an awful lot more given. The referee gives it because he is adamant that it's a penalty. We're disappointed that it was given. Just because the goalkeeper and centre forward go for the same ball; if the centre forward pokes the ball around the 'keeper and the 'keeper takes him out then fair enough - but that didn't happen. They both went in for the same ball, they both went in together - so there is obviously going to be a collision. The referee decided that the collision warranted a penalty, but I don't particularly understand it.'

Paul Gallagher duly dispatched the spot kick and Leicester overwhelmed Rovers in the second half with four unanswered goals as they inflicted Rovers heaviest defeat since 2004 when they were beaten 5-0 at Bournemouth.

You never see penalties awarded for that sort of challenge. Looks like a referee buckling under the pressure of a large crowd. I bet he wouldn't have give it at the other end.

I'm not surprised by O'Driscoll's reaction. It was a shocking decision, once again Rovers are on the wrong end of a really poor decision. I'm sure JR will be having his say with the referees.
