Doncaster Rovers chief executive David Morris is confident the club can hold onto manager Sean O`Driscoll despite giving him permission to speak to Sheffield United.
Morris, speaking to the Press Association said, ''I think, right at this moment, there's a good chance Sean will remain at Doncaster Rovers.
''I'm sure Sheffield United fans and management would call that wishful thinking, but Sean is a big part of what we're trying to build here, he's proud of what we have achieved and we're hopeful he'll want to carry it on.
''There's still a lot more to achieve here and I agree with the comments of our chairman that Blades fans would not necessarily be prepared to give Sean the time he has been given here.''
O`Driscoll is the bookies favourite to take over from Gary Speed at Bramall Lane after Speed left to take over the Wales national job.
Rovers would demand a huge compensation package from Sheffield if they are to prize O`Driscoll away from the Keepmoat.
O`Driscoll was one of the favourites to take over at Burnley in January and after holding discussions with the Turf Moor club, who were in the Premier League at the time, they were scared of by Rovers compensation demands.
