DRFC Coppinger takes fans award

Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger has been named the Fans Player of the Season for the 2010/11 season.

Coppinger won the award despite failing to win any of the monthly awards throughout the season.

Coppinger, speaking in the Sheffield Star , was delighted to win the fans award and pointed to performing consistently over the season in the Rovers midfield, "I`m delighted to have won the award, especially as it is voted for by the fans.
"To have won it without winning any of the monthly awards shows that I must have been consistent throughout the season rather than playing well at one particular stage of the season," he said.

The midfielder has also enjoyed a productive season in front of goal, netting on seven occasions this season, including a hat trick in the home game with Norwich City in September.

He has also been one of the leaders in the Championship this season for creating goals having had ten assists.

Coppinger also has been amongst the front-runners in the Opt Actim Index that gages the performance of all players in the Championship.

The 30 year old is Rovers longest serving player having joined the club in 2004 from Exeter City.

He has now made almost 300 appearances for the club and scored in excess of 30 goals.

When Rovers first went up to the Championship I din't think he was strong enough but he's got better with each season.
