DRFC Rovers set to travel to Carlisle

Doncaster Rovers are set to play Carlisle United in pre season in a benefit match for Sean McDaid according to reports.

Reports in The Carlisle News and Star say that the two teams will meet on July 23rd at Brunton Park although this is yet to be confirmed by either club.

The 25 year old was forced to retire earlier in the season after suffering a knee injury, just fourteen games into his Carlisle career, after being released by Doncaster last summer.

McDaid had spent five years at Doncaster, making eight-one appearances and helping the club to win the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy in 2007 and promotion from League One in 2008.

He also won the clubs Players Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Supporters club Player of the Year during the 2005/06 season.

The versatile left sided player suffered a dislocated kneecap towards the end of the 2008 promotion season, which was to keep him out of the side for over eighteen months.

He was eventually forced to retire in March this year after being advised by medical staff to retire with immediate effect.

McDaid was presented with a silver salver before Rovers game with Cardiff in April and he received a tremendous ovation from the Keepmoat Stadium crowd after being invited back by Rovers chairman John Ryan.

Despite being told to hang up his boots, McDaid is hoping to stay in the game in some capacity.

Lets hope plenty of people turn out. A very talented player who's career was sadly cut short.

Glad to see the two clubs are doing something for him. I hope he can find a job in football.
