DRFC Rovers tell Ipswich to get on their tractor

Doncaster Rovers have turned down a bid in the region of £2.6 million for duo Billy Sharp and James Coppinger from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town.

Both players played pivotal parts in Rovers season, Sharp finished top goalscorer for the second season in a row with sixteen goals in thirty-one appearances.

Coppinger also enjoyed a successful season, scoring seven goals, his best return in seven seasons at the club.

Town are believed to have bid £2.3 million for Sharp and £300,000 for Coppinger.

Rovers chairman John Ryan is determined to hold onto the pair and believes they will be key players for the club next season.

In a statement on the official website, Ryan said, "Sean O`Driscoll is determined to build a quality squad to go into next season and these two players are pivotal to that desire.
"The club remains ambitious and feels that with a bit more luck with injuries and refereeing decisions we can be a real force in the Championship next season.
"Sharp and Coppinger are without doubt wonderful players that are getting better and better.
"I`m very confident, if they both remain fit, they will influence our campaign in a very positive way.

Sharp is Rovers record signing, having signed from Sheffield United last summer for £1.15 million after a successful season on loan.

The 25 year old has now scored thirty-one goals in sixty-six appearances for Rovers.

Coppinger is Rovers longest serving player. The 30 year old joined Rovers during the 2004/05 season and as now made almost 300 appearances for the club.

I think £300,000 is an absolute joke for a player like Coppinger. He might be 30 but he seems to be getting better and better.
