DRFC O'Driscoll set for clearout

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll could be set for a big summer clearance.

O`Driscoll has nine players out of contract at the club this summer and he looks is set to wield the axe and build for the new season after just avoiding relegation.

Rovers season fell off the rails after an horrendous injury problem during 2011 and five of the nine players out of contract are currently on the treatment table.

James Chambers, Paul Keegan, Dennis Souza, Ryan Burge and Steve Brooker are all out of contract and all currently on the treatment table.

James Chambers has had an injury-ravaged season and looks set to be on the sidelines until around Christmas.

The 30-year-old made just nine appearances for Rovers last season.

Paul Keegan signed on a short-term deal in January and was a regular in the Rovers midfield until injury finished his season.

The 26-year-old Irish midfielder made ten appearances before needing surgery on a cartilage injury.

Steve Brooker has spent almost two and a half years on the sidelines since signing for Rovers in January 2009.

The 29-year-old has made just two starts and scored his first goal for the club following his permanent signing in their last home game against Leicester City.

Dennis Souza signed for Rovers after a successful trial on a short-term deal.

The 31-year-old has made just nine appearances after signing in November.

Ryan Burge signed on a short-term deal in January and made just one substitute appearance.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a loan spell at Oxford United towards the end of season making five appearances.

Also out of contract are veteran goalkeeper Neil Sullivan and defenders Sam Hird, Wayne Thomas and Byron Webster.

Neil Sullivan struggled to regain his place in the side after recovering from injury this season.

Youngster Gary Woods was keeping him out of the side until he suffered an injury towards the end of the season.

The 41 year old had been an almost ever present since joining the club in 2007 making over 200 appearances.

Wayne Thomas only joined Rovers at the start of the season after being released by Southampton.

The 31 year old made twenty-one appearances during his first season at the Keepmoat but was another with injury problems that kept him sidelined.

Sam Hird was a regular in the Rovers squad during the season making 32 appearances in the Championship.

The 23 year old has been a regular for Rovers in the past three seasons and he has now made over 100 appearances for the club.

Byron Webster returned after a long-term injury lay off but failed to earn himself a regular place in the Rovers side making just seven appearances.

The 24 year old spent time on loan at Hereford United and Northampton Town.

He finished the season on loan at Northampton making eight starts and they are rumoured to be interested in keeping him at Sixfields.

O`Driscoll is likely to name his retained and released list in the near future.

The hard part will be replacing them. Most players are wanting far too much money for a team like Rovers.
