DRFC A Vital Northampton view - Byron Webster

Vital Northampton have been kind enough to answer a few questions about Doncaster defender Byron Webster who finished the season with Northampton.

Many thanks to Matthew Garlick for his answers.

Had you heard of Nunez prior to him signing for Scunthorpe and what did you think of his signing when it was announced?
I personally hadn't heard of him before we signed him upon his arrival at Sixfields, but Webster showed all the attributes in his debut against Bradford that Gary Johnson had described of him. A tall, commanding, tough tackling centre half.

What did you think of Webster during his time at Sixfields?
Overall, very solid. On our away trip to Wycombe, I had a few criticisms and dismissed him out as a possible future player for the Cobblers, but in our final game of the season up at Morecambe, he won me over, shone above the rest of the squad, and was my man of the match.

What were his strength's and weaknesses?
His main strength is his height, which allows him to win the majority of the headers from big lumps up the field, a tactic that is commonplace at League Two level. Under pressure however, he seemed a bit shaky when in possession of the ball.

If he is not offered a new deal at Doncaster this summer would you like to see him sign for Northampton?
Definitely, alongside a paceier centre-half, Webster and co could be the perfect backbone of hopefully a promotion winning side next season.

Did the Northampton fans come up with any good chants or nicknames for Webster?
Unfortunately not, but should Webster sign it will not be long before there is a chant being sung amongst the Cobblers faithful!

Thanks Matthew for your thoughts.

I always felt that if Webster had been given a good run in the side at Donny he would have done well.
