DRFC Rovers confirm pre season friendlies

Doncaster Rovers have finally confirmed four pre season friendlies ahead of the 2011/12 season.

Rovers will kick off their pre season campaign against Armthorpe Welfare in a testimonial game for former Rovers player Des Bennett.

Bennett is the manager at Armthorpe and the game will take place on Thursday July 7th at the Welfare Ground, with a 7.30pm kick off.

Rovers will travel to Blue Square conference sides Mansfield Town and Grimsby Town.

Mansfield will host Rovers on Tuesday 19th July with a 7.30pm kick off.

Grimsby will host Rovers on Friday July 29th with a 7.30pm kick off.

Rovers will travel to League One side Sheffield United on Tuesday 26th July, also with a 7.30pm kick off.

The two sides met in the championship last season with the sides sharing the points in a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.

Rovers will travel to Brunton Park to face Carlisle United in a benefit match for Sean McDaid on Saturday July 23rd with a 3pm kick off.

25-year-old McDaid was forced to retire last season with a knee injury whilst at Carlisle.

McDaid spent almost five years at Doncaster and helped the club win the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy and also promotion to the Championship.

There is no game so far at the Keepmoat for home fans to get a chance to look at any new players the club might add to the squad over the summer.

Next seasons Championship campaign will start on Saturday August 6th.

I wonder of they will have a home friendly this summer. I know they only wanted one last season the try and rest the pitch.

you can understand them wanting to rest the pitch after all the wear and tear that it undergoes during the year. Two football teams a rugby team and other events to try and make ends meet.
