DRFC Rovers to face Tranmere in cup

DRFC Rovers to face Tranmere in cup

Doncaster Rovers have been handed a home draw in the first round of the 2011/12 Carling Cup.

Rovers will welcome League One side Tranmere Rovers to the Keepmoat in the week commencing August 8th.

Rovers have a poor recent record in the cup having lost in the first round to League Two sides, in two of the last three seasons.

It will be the first time the two sides have met in the League Cup.

The last time they met in a cup competition was in the Northern area final of the associate members cup in 1990.

On that occasion they shared a 1-1 draw at Belle Vue, a result that saw Tranmere progress to the final 3-1 on aggregate.

The last time the two sides met was during the 2007/08 season when Rovers won 1-0 at Prenton Park thanks to an early James Coppinger strike.

Its an home draw so should give us a huge advantage. Should be harder than Accrington and Notts County in recent years and we all know what happened then!
