DRFC No Yorkshire joy for Rovers

Doncaster Rovers went out in the group stage of the Yorkshire Masters in Sheffield.

Six teams lined up in the Yorkshire region with two groups of three teams.

Each squad consisted of eight players, with Lee Butler, Russ Wilcox, Scott Maxfield, Chris Swailes, Sir Francis Tierney, Duane Darby, Tim Ryan and Steve Gaughan representing Rovers.

Rovers found themselves in group A along with Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

In group b were reigning champions Barnsley, along with Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.

Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday opened the evening with Rovers twice coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw.

Superb strikes from Scott Maxfield and Duane Darby earning Rovers their point.

Rovers bowed out of the competition after losing their second game to Sheffield United 3-2.

Chris Swailes and Duane Darby found the net for Rovers but it was not enough.

Sheffield United won through to the final when they beat Sheffield Wednesday 5-3 in the final group game to see Rovers finish second in their group.

In group B, Leeds won both their games to book their place in the final.

In the final, Leeds booked their place in the grand final, defeating Sheffield United 5-3.

Even in these games we get nothing from the refs. Jeff Winter gave us nothing especially Duane Darby when he was fouled when through on goal.

In a few more years Rovers should be much stronger with plenty of players from this decade being able to play rather than the ones from the 90's
