Vital Sheffield Wednesday contributor NicNac gives us her views on new Doncaster Rovers signing Tommy Spurr.
Spurr joined Rovers on a two-year deal on Tuesday, after five years in the first team at Hillsborough.
Were you disappointed to see him leave?
Yes. He showed great early potential, capped off by superb goals against Fulham in the FA Cup at home I think, and of course the goal against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Where do you think it went wrong for him at Wednesday?
I think he's a player who needs guidance, someone to put their arm around him and guide him. With the pressure that is on Wednesday teams to perform and to be successful, we just don't have the capacity to be coaching someone to the nth degree. Fans demand results, I'm sure Milan is demanding results, and unfortunately for us Tommy's best interests lie elsewhere.
What are his strength`s and weaknesses?
Strength actually is going forward, overlapping with the left-winger and pushing forward. Teale didn't seem interested in doing this often with Tommy last year. More of a fault of Teale than Tommy though!
I would say his main weakness is in the air, and he isn't exactly quick. If Sean O`Driscoll can get his positioning right, I am sure he will flourish.
I am not sure how much you guys know of him, but he started as a centre half, not a left back.
We just had to play him there as:
a) We had no left full back.
b) He's left footed!
Also, he never gives up. I think it is one of the reasons why Wednesday fans didn`t give him such a hard time, despite below par performances. We're used to crap players, crap teams, but one thing we won't stand for is a lack of effort. Tommy never had that problem.
Did you have any chants for him?
To the tune of 'Baby give it up' Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah, we've got Tommy Spurr, Tommy Spurr, we've got Tommy Spurr.
Thanks for those NicNac, the general opinion from Wednesday fans seems to be of one that he will flourish with a fresh start at Doncaster.
