DRFC Sharp wants to stay with Rovers

Billy Sharp continues to show a rare commodity in the modern day football by committing himself to Doncaster Rovers.

Sharp has been the subject of improved bids over the summer from Ipswich Town and Southampton but he insists he wants to stay at the Keepmoat.

The latest bid, from Southampton is believed to be in the region of £3.25 million but Sharp would only consider a move if a Premier League club became interested.

Rovers chairman John Ryan, speaking in the Doncaster Free Press said, "Billy didn`t want to go and we are delighted.
"Billy told me he loves it here but he is very ambitious and said he would have to seriously consider a move if a Premier League club came in for him and we fully understand that."

The 25 year old joined Rovers last summer after enjoying a season on loan the previous season.

Sharp chose to join Rovers last season for a club record fee of £1.15 million despite the opportunity of higher wages from other clubs.

The striker has been the clubs leading goalscorer in his two seasons at the Keepmoat, netting thirty-one goals in sixty-six games.

Very commendable from Sharp. Rovers must be getting close to accepting these bids. Over £2 million profit in a year and with the clubs resources. It depends whether Mr Ryan and his board members are willing to keep throwing cash into the club at a loss. I can't see them wanting to sell him epsecially whilst they are still trying to boost season ticket sales.

I Think Billy has got his head screwed on, he is a very big fish in a relatively small pond, if he can show continuous fittness in the first half of this season and get the same results as he did last year then I don`t think there will be a premier club below the top six who won`t be watching. Good luck to you billy, you have helped to give us something to shout about and I for one will be very sad to see you go but I think you will get your reward for the work and commitment you have given to our club.
