Bury fan Nick has answered a few questions about their former player and Rovers new signing Kyle Bennett.
Bennett signed for Rovers after one year at Gigg Lane and helped them to promotion from League Two.
Were you disappointed to see him leave?
Disappointed but not entirely surprised. He was one of our leading lights last season. It was a growing concern amongst Bury fans that he was one of the ones out of contract at the end of the season but if the boy feels he can cut it in the Championship and a club is willing to take him on, then there's nothing much you can do to stop it.
What are his strength`s and weaknesses?
Well he's only a kid so with that comes the inevitable inconsistency, you can't expect him to be on top of his game every week. However when he has it on him he can be a tenacious little player, there were a handful of games this season when he was nothing short of sensational. I imagine there is a fair few league two defenders still having nightmares about him whilst others probably will not remember him at all. On his day, he's everything you want a wide player to be - fast, skilful and fearless.
Do you think he will make the grade in the Championship?
I have no doubt that there will be games when he is fairly anonymous and Sean O'Driscoll will have to manage him well and to have realistic expectations of him. There will also be games when he runs the show. I'd be interested to see Donny versus Brighton as his brother Elliott (another former Bury loanee) plays for them in a similar position. (DonnyEd - I am sure his brother has joined Norwich).
As he matures, and with good coaching he will become a class player without a doubt and I am quite sure the Premiership beckons at some point in his career.
Did you have any chants for him?
Nothing more imaginative than 'There's only one Kyle Bennett' I'm afraid, we're terrible at that sort of thing.
Thanks for those Nick, it sounds like Rovers fans will be in for a rollercoaster ride with their new signing next season.
