DRFC Sharp fee was agreed with Southampton

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins says a deal was agreed with Doncaster Rovers for the services of striker Billy Sharp.

Rovers reported that a £3.25 million deal for the clubs leading goalscorer wouldn`t happen after Sharp committed his future at the Keepmoat.

Speaking on the Southampton official website, Adkins said, "We got the chance to talk to Billy Sharp because we had agreed a deal with the Doncaster chairman, but after the negotiations it was decided that we wouldn`t take it any further, it`s as simple as that. Whichever way you want to talk about it, the fact of the matter is that Billy is going to remain a Doncaster player."

Sharp admits that he would have to seriously consider a move if a Premier League side became interested.

Another one of Adkins players is also being linked with a move to the Keepmoat.

Sean O`Driscoll is keen on bringing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Andy Keogh to the Keepmoat but the transfer fee and wages seem to be the major obstacle.

Sharp and Keogh scored the goals that helped Scunthorpe secure the League One title in 2007 and O`Driscoll would like to reunite the duo.

So clubs now know how much to offer to get the bid accepted. I honestly can't see him in a Rovers shirt on the opening day.
