DRFC Captain ahead of schedule

DRFC Captain ahead of schedule

Doncaster Rovers captain Brian Stock is ahead of schedule in his fight to regain fitness after undergoing ankle surgery at the end of last season.

The Welsh international was expected to be out until at least November but after visiting his surgeon he was given the good news that he is around a month ahead of schedule.

Stock is expected to return to light training next week with a number of jogging exercises on the horizon.

The 29 year old has been plagued with a number of injuries since Rovers return to the championship and he is not going to rush his comeback and wants to be 100% before considering a return to first team action. Speaking in the Doncaster Star , Stock said, "I`ve spent a lot of the last two years not 100 per cent fit and there is no way that I am going to start playing again until I am and I`ve really worked hard.
"As you get older you get more experienced and the one thing that I don`t want to do to is to try and rush back and for the ankle to break down.
"If I miss the first couple of months of the season then hopefully I`ll be fit for the rest of it.
"As I say I want to make sure that I`m 100 per cent fit before I go back into the team and be the player that I have been in the past and that I can be in the future."

Despite his injury problems, Stock managed 31 appearances last season and signed a new contract with the club keeping him at the Keepmoat until 2013.

Good to see he's doing some running but still a long way to go.

Good to see he is using his experience and common-sense. With luck the new signings will give all our players the luxury to regain full fitness instead of playing games at 80%. We know they don`t need any encouragement to get back on the field and would use a crutch given half the chance but if we can carry on as we are going with new signings it will give Sean more freedom to be picky and has got to pay dividends. dblido

Lets hope he's not rushed back if we have a few injuries and does himself more harm
