DRFC Sharp - We will stay up

Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp is ready to defy the bookies tag as favourites to go down from the championship this season.

Rovers have been installed has relegation favourites after finishing fourth bottom last season but Sharp is confident that Rovers will remain a championship side.

Speaking in the Doncaster Star , Sharp said, "We`ve got to be relegation favourites after finishing fourth bottom last season.
"The three relegated teams are expected to do well and the three teams who have come up are supposedly going to be strong. But we are not going to go down. We`ve got to try and get off to a good start like we did last season and then hopefully build on that."

The clubs record transfer player has finished top scorer in his two seasons at the Keepmoat and he`s keen to see out the remainder of his contract despite being linked with a number of clubs during the summer.

The 25 year old admits that he would one day like to play in the Premier League and he would like to help Rovers reach the Promised Land, "I just think myself that one day I will be good enough to play there.
"In the meantime I`ve got two years left on my contract and I`ll be working as hard as I can during that time to both help the club and to try and get to the Premier League. "I`m not in any rush to go and while ever I`m here I`ll be giving 110 per cent to the club. I`ve been working hard on my fitness during the summer and I`ll be ready to go when the season starts," he continued.

Rovers will be hoping to get off to a good start to the season but face a tricky opening month with games at two clubs who have invested over the summer, Brighton and Hove Albion and Derby County.

They also face two tough home games against relegated West Ham United and Nottingham Forest who lost out in last seasons play offs.

Rovers hopes of staying up really hang on Sharp staying at the club.

We need a fit sharp for 40 games to have any chance of staying up.
